Common questions
What is the nisab threshold for zakat?
The nisab is the minimum wealth that makes zakat due, equal to 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Sahab Zakat calculates it automatically from live gold prices.
How much zakat do I need to pay?
Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth above the nisab, calculated once a year on your zakat anniversary date.
Who are the eight categories of zakat recipients (asnaf)?
The Quran names eight: the poor (fuqara), the needy (masakin), zakat administrators (amilin), those whose hearts are to be reconciled (muallafat al-qulub), freeing captives (riqab), debtors (gharimin), in the cause of Allah (fi sabilillah), and stranded travelers (ibn al-sabil).
